John P. Fishwick Jr. founded Fishwick & Associates PLC in Roanoke, Virginia, where he was born and has practiced law. He earned his J.D. with honors from Washington and Lee University School of Law in 1983 and his undergraduate degree from Harvard College in 1979. Upon graduation from law school, John clerked for Chief Judge James C. Turk of the Western District of Virginia. John gained keen insights into how Judges make decisions. John was a competitive varsity athlete in college and ran the Boston Marathon twice, bringing that same competitiveness to his work. He is admitted to practice in Virginia, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and the U.S. District Courts for both the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia and the United States Supreme Court.
John served as United States Attorney for the Western District of Virginia from 2015 to 2017, appointed by the President to serve as the chief federal law enforcement officer for the entire Western District. Before and after that appointment, he has represented individuals in serious civil and criminal matters across Virginia’s state and federal courts, successfully trying cases on both sides of the docket.
